About Carrie
"When I was little, I used to camp overnight in my friend's garden. We would make up stories in the dark...
...each of us would come up with a scene that the other would ad-lib from. I've always had stories spinning around in my head. My characters don't let me sleep; they chat away all night!"
“I grew up reading horror stories – Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Herbert – I wrote my first novel when I was twelve, a horror about a circus that came to town and all the women started going missing. It was terrible! I still love horror now which is why my thrillers are on the darker side. The crow scenes in Stone the Dead Crows came about from binge-watching The Walking Dead! I adore that show.
But what I truly love is exploring the minds of characters, what makes them tick, what motivates them. And I love a good twist. So it had to be psychological thrillers in the end.
My books aren’t just dark and scary though, they have romance too. Writing the scenes between Saeed and Rose in Stone the Dead Crows was such a thrill. Her experiences are very personal to me and I talk a lot about that in an Author’s Note at the end of the book. Although my novels do require the suspension of disbelief, I also draw a lot from real-life experiences.”

Carrie was born in Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. She studied creative writing at Webster University in the Netherlands, Wollongong University in Australia, and Winchester University in England.
Her debut novel, When He’s Not Here, was a No.1 Bestseller on Amazon and Audible. Her second novel, Stone the Dead Crows, was a Silver Falchion Finalist for Best Thriller.
In her previous life, Carrie spent fifteen years as a computer engineer, all the while with a yellowing copy of Plot by Ansen Dibell on her bookshelf and her soul dying a little every time she asked if you’d switched it off and back on again. She left IT in 2006 and never looked back.
She lives in Hampshire with her husband and two very hairy four-legged children that she adores ludicrously and disproportionately.

“I love hearing from readers. When I wrote When He’s Not Here, I needed a car to end up in a river. I spent days on Google Street View virtually walking around Georgia searching for a remote bridge with low barriers. I found the Capps Ferry Road Bridge over the Chattahoochee River. So when a reader emailed to say he drove over that bridge every day and wondered why I’d picked it, it made my day. I mean, what are the chances? The idea that people so far away, are reading my books is a real thrill, I love that sense of connection.”
